~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is the first book in the Selkie’s Heart series.  It is told in third person POV.
I was drawn to this book because of the Selkies – a were-seal, if you will – pulled from Scottish and Irish lore.
I liked the story.  It was imaginative, romantic, and in parts suspenseful.  The characters are likeable and relatable.
Unfortunately, the writing itself is poor.  Sentences are too simplistic and words/ideas are too often repeated (e.g.  “…he would only continue to fall deeper under the spell of her magic.  It seemed his little human possessed her own magic, and moreover, it seemed Selkies were not the only creatures with magic.”  This kept me from falling into the true magic that is the spell cast by a well-written story.
This is the first book offered by Lana Lea Short.  I hope she continues to work at it and is able to grow in her chosen craft.
