“Oh, God! We can hurt each other. Whatever we do to each other in the dream, we’ll do it to ourselves for real…”

When her own dreams are visited by a mysterious woman in a red dress, Sara realizes she has something she never expected: a counterpart, someone outside her family who shares her talent to see other people’s dreams.

When the woman in red keeps showing up in other dreams as well, leaving ruined lives in her wake, Sara knows she has something she never imagined: a nemesis.

Now, Sara must track the woman in red down in the waking world, before she’s forced to fight for her life in her dreams…

“Waking Dream” is the exciting fifth novel in the “Dreams” series.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dr. Sara Alderson is once again using her abilities to dream walk in order to solve a mystery that includes military espionage and seduction!  She has also learned that injuries received in the dream world, will exist in the real world when she awakes.  There is another dream-walker intent on using the dream world to further her husband’s career and the woman-in-red isn’t concerned with whom she harms.  Sara is focused on keeping everyone safe, but can she when faced with this villain?
While the book could stand alone, it is best if you read the series in order.  Mr. DiBenedetto has once again written a story that will have you questioning what you see in your dreams at night.  I loved how he interwove the Harry Potter stories into this book, providing that touch of being able to relate to the characters in this book.
I was very happy when I reached the end of the book and found out that there is going to be a sixth book in this series.  I look forward to continuing this journey with Sara and the rest of the Alderson family.
The Dreams series:
  1. Dream Student
  2. Dream Doctor
  3. Dream Child
  4. Dream Family
  5. Waking Dream
  6. Dream Reunion
  7. Dream Home
  8. Dream Vacation
  9. Fever Dream
  10. Dream Wedding
J.J. (James) DiBenedetto was born in Yonkers, New York. He attended Case Western Reserve University, where as his classmates can attest, he was a complete nerd. Very little has changed since then.
He currently lives in Arlington, Virginia with his beautiful wife and their cat (who has thoroughly trained them both). When he's not writing, James works in the direct marketing field, enjoys the opera, photography, and the New York Giants, among other interests.
The "Dreams" series is James' first published work.
Description from the publisher:
"Why is this so hard for me? Why am I having so much trouble? Why do I feel so helpless, so hopeless? What the hell is wrong with me?"
After tangling with murders and mobsters, not to mention medical school and three years of residency, Sara thought she could handle anything. And then the police show up without warning at her new office and arrest her for a crime she can't possibly have committed. Sara's confidence, and her grip on reality, is shattered during one terrifying night in jail.
Now, the very dreams that have endangered her life and driven her to the edge of madness may be the only thing that can help Sara find herself again...
"Dream Family" is the powerful fourth novel in the "Dreams" series..
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This is the fourth book in a series.  Though each could stand alone, there is greater understanding in reading all of them, in order.

One the very first day of private practice, the police show up and arrest Sara for a crime she couldn’t have possibly committed in only four hours of business.  Twenty-four hours in jail is enough to trigger old memories that leave her with a PTSD.  Not only do her dreams help her solve the crime of which she has been accused, but also several other situations involving those she loves are also resolved from the dreams of her and her family.

This story was a little more emotional, more personal.  I think all women can relate to the fear of the violations and indignities inherent in the act of being incarcerated.  Though Sara is torn apart, in fact broken, emotionally by these actions, she also rallies the strength and love she is able to garner from family and friends to soldier on in order to gain her permanent freedom.

I am so glad I signed on for all five books in this series.  Thank you J.J. for sharing them with me and with the world.  J.J.’s growing mastery of his craft is evident in the richness of character and plot development in this story.

Memorable quote:  “Never ask ‘what else can go wrong,’ unless you want to find out.” ~ Beth

Description from the publisher:

"I would give anything to take this away from her.  I would gladly go back to having the nightmares myself – the very worst ones, the ones that had me waking up screaming in a pool of my own vomit – rather than see Lizzie go through this..."

As a resident at Children's Hospital, Sara can handle ninety hour workweeks, fighting to save her young patients from deadly childhood diseases.  But she's about to be faced with a challenge that all her training and experience haven't prepared her for: her four-year-old daughter has inherited her ability to see other people's dreams...

"Dream Child" is the suspenseful third novel in the "Dreams" series.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Book three in the series.  This does stand alone, but I highly recommend reading in order.
What would you do to prevent fear for your child?  To save the life of a child?  Twenty children?  Two hundred?
This was another terrific, suspenseful, paranormal tale with a large touch of family love.  I am loving this series.  I could not put this down. Sara and Ben’s daughter, Lizzie, is the sweetest, most precocious four-year-old you will ever read about.
I have to say, Mrs. DiBenedetto must be one very lucky lady.  This guy knows how to describe true love and that only happens if you live it.
The Dreams series:
  1. Dream Student
  2. Dream Doctor
  3. Dream Child
  4. Dream Family
  5. Waking Dream
Description from the publisher:
“I didn’t expect to be woken up by someone I don’t know dreaming about killing somebody. I thought I was done with that once and for all…”
But Sara’s not done with it. As if adjusting to life as a newlywed and starting medical school weren’t difficult enough, she’s started seeing the dreams of everyone around her, again. Before everything is said and done, those dreams might destroy Sara’s hopes of becoming a doctor, wreck her marriage and even end her life…
“Dream Doctor” is the thrilling second novel in the Dreams series.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

DREAM DOCTOR picks up on the lives of Sara and Brian a year after end of DREAM STUDENT.  It is now Sara’s first year of medical school and Brian’s final year of college as an I/T major in 1991-92.  Once again Sara is an unwilling voyeur to the dreams of her friends and neighbors.  This time she is concerned that someone may be planning to kill one of her professors.  Her only problem is that there are too many suspects who all have reason to attack this old curmudgeon.

This second book can stand on its own, but I wouldn’t deny myself the first book in this series.

I love this series so far.  Three more books in the next couple of weeks.  In fact, #3 will be posted tomorrow.  This story is a very well-written, paranormal, medical, mystery story.

The Dreams series:

  2. Dream Doctor

  4. Dream Family
  5. Waking Dream
