Description
from the publisher:
Vanessa Beaumont is on a mission…a mission to protect her beloved
horse Ransom from her ex-husband’s clutches. When her vehicle collides with
deer during a violent summer storm, she finds herself stranded and lost in the
back roads of Ohio. Forced to rely on the kindness of a stranger, Vanessa is
both wary and grateful. What she didn’t count on was her attraction to said
stranger or the ease with which she fits into his life.
Sheriff Riley Whitaker thinks nothing of the consequences when he
opens his home to Vanessa and her horse. However, it’s not long before he
realizes his attraction for the lush little blonde. A dinner here, a movie
there and several nights of making love leave Riley facing an entirely new
problem. Before long he can’t picture his life without Vanessa in it, but how
can he convince her to stay.
When Vanessa’s vindictive ex-husband discovers her whereabouts,
placing her life in danger, Riley knows he’ll puts his own life on the line to
protect the woman he loves.
Author's Note: This story is a re-release and was previously titled
Ransomed Heart.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is the
first book in the Small Town series. It
is a stand-alone contemporary romance.
I enjoyed
this story of finding love, unexpectedly, quickly, and knowing it is
eternal. I know one couple that married
after one date. Thirty-three years
they’re still together. Sometimes,
that’s what love is. It’s a fire that
flares to life quickly and is sustained with faithful feeding.
I found
this book to be one of those comfortable romances with a dash of suspense that
relaxes me. There was just enough drama
to keep me glued and involved, but not stressed.
I do wish
the author had maintained the BBW aspect alluded to during the first chapter or
two. She also needs to invest in editing
services (or make friends with a grammar Nazi willing to assist).
I do look
forward to reading more from Ms. Stapleton.
