TO SCREECH THEIR OWN is the first book in the Haven series.  I was gifted this when it was a stand-alone titled SHIFTER'S RULE.  Apparently – and rightly in my opinion – fans have asked for this to be made into a series and this book has been renamed.
 
From 1977 to 1984, Friday night meant Fantasy Island (and the Love Boat).  This book has a very strong Fantasy Island vibe, without “da plane!”  There are some unusual shifters mentioned including an eagle, a hippo, a hummingbird, and many others.  Which brings up the question:  just how does a big buff guy squish down to be a hummingbird? 
 
I enjoyed this fun short story with its colorful and witty characters.  Katie and Arnaud are shifters you would never expect to be together, except that an eagle might dine on a cat – mwa-ha-ha!  Instead, they are so perfectly suited for one another.  This is an example of opposites attracting and balancing one another. 
 
I did think the drama subplot was resolved too quickly.  On the other hand, the romance was perfectly paced.
 
I join the fans in hoping this series is continued.  This is a Fantasy-Island-Rom-Com that needs to be a series.  Though our 70s era Mr. Roarke never had his own fantasy weekend, I think eventually we will need the Mr. Roarke on Haven Island to break Rule #1 (no fraternizing with the guests).  Perhaps his fantasy would be the one to get him out of the loud island shirts and into the classy white suits?
