Description from the publisher:
A duty to protect his sworn enemy…
Ten years ago the president’s teenage daughter, Penelope Isabella Aaron, had leveled false accusations against Brock Mann and derailed his protection officer career. Much has changed in a decade: “PIA” as he code-named her, has grown up. She’s an ambassador about to attend her first Association of Planets conference, and Brock has been transformed into a cyborg.
Now a secret agent with Cyber Operations, he gets called in, not when the going gets tough, but when the going gets impossible. So when he’s assigned to go undercover as Penelope’s husband and ensure she gets safely to the summit, he balks. But honor won’t allow him to shirk his duty, and he agrees to protect the woman he’d sworn to despise.
But if a terrorist bombing and a crash landing on a hostile planet aren’t bad enough, Brock soon discovers his unexpected growing attraction to his protectee makes Operation: PIA his most dangerous assignment yet.
Cyborg Protector (Men of Mettle 1) was originally titled Stranded with the Cyborg.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CYBORG PROTECTOR is the first book
in the Men of Mettle series. This is a rerelease and rebranding of the
Cy-Ops series. Though each book will
stand on its own, it is better if you read them all and in the order of
release.
Though this is the first in the
series, I felt like I was missing some basic knowledge of the universe into
which I had landed. Every day items were
not explained, such as the PerComm (personal communication device) that after
several chapters I figured out was their version of a tablet that was their
phone, but also held their calendar, files, etc. Is this a spin-off of another series?
That set aside, it was only a mild
annoyance after all, I loved the story of Pia (Oh, her name is actually
Penelope? Yeah I’m not going to remember
that. LOL) and Brock. Brock knew her
when she was an immature, impulsive, naïve, bratty, teenager. Age hasn’t improved her nature, though she
has adjusted her attitudes; she has learned empathy. That just means she knows to say, “sorry”
after her impulsivity has landed her hot water again. For Brock, the intervening years, have
changed his whole life. Seeing Penelope
as a desirable woman just isn’t something he believes he’s allowed to dream about
for himself.
That’s the set up: unrequited teenage crush vs a man who doesn’t
believe he’s worthy. It was perfectly explained. Nothing was rushed. I felt like I was able to truly grow to know
these characters and love both of them before they fell for one another.
Creative story, lovable characters, “hateable”
villains, steamy sex scenes, frightening fights, and quick banter all combines
to make this a great romance in an exotic background.
I don’t normally read Sci-Fi Romance;
this book may change that stand for me.
Not since Princess Leia and Han Solo have I wanted to hear lasers
blasting and the Cantina Band. So,
yeah! Thank you, Cara Bristol for
bringing me into the world of Sci-Fi Romance.
I look forward to reading more from you.
Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC
via Booksprout, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
