LAVINIA AND THE LAIRD is the first book in the Bluestocking Brides series. Though best to be read in the order of release, I had already read the fourth book. I think that added to my enjoyment because I knew some “secrets” before they happened.

This is a sweet, easy, and comfortable story of two people meeting in the most innocent of ways, getting to know each other, and developing a mutual affection that grows. Of course, her title-hungry mother isn’t going to approve, but what’s that compared to true love?

I loved the lost cows and cake fights. These things made me smile. Living in the country isn’t like living in London. There are beautiful fields and that is why the author, H. W. Bentley, is there in the first place; which is why Laird Niall Campbell is there. There are four incorrigible red-headed Chadwick sisters; which is why Lavinia tries especially hard to be even more pliable to her mother. However, when she meets Niall, my heart fell with hers. There was no denying what was to come.

This is what I love about reading. When the words are so perfectly written that you feel them in your own heart. Days later, I still smile as I relive those words and that life that was mine as I read them.
