Description from the publisher:
Marine veteran Marcus Lincoln
returns home after almost being blown to bits. His physical injuries are nothing compared to
his mental state. He now sees the ghost
of his best friend. In need of R &
R, he rents rooms from a landowner in small-town Georgia. However, the landlord looks nothing like he
imagined.
Victoria Silvershade is a spirit
seeker. She wants to start a foundation
that will allow her to help spirits who have not crossed over. And it just so happens she has her own troupe
of ghosts residing in her home. To bring
in money, she rents out part of her house to Marcus but fails to tell him his
new landlord is a woman.
When her foundation sponsors begin
to turn up dead, Victoria, Marcus, and their combined ghost family try to find
the killer. But will they succeed before
they become deceased themselves?

GHOSTDRUMS is the first book in the Heroes of Coweta County series. This book stands completely on its own, but I
would love to read further in the series.
The main characters, Marcus and
Victoria, are deeply-faceted and I have fallen utterly in love with them.
The writing is good when it should
be great. The author has relied on the
blurb to relay information instead of giving that basic information in the
story. There are many other places where
world-building would have helped to bring the reader along, instead of assuming
that we all knew that everyone knew everyone else and what they did or did not
know. For example, Julien’s “special
skills” were mentioned and accepted by Marcus when he was introduced, but not
described until they were to be put into use. I noticed… and it made me stop
the story and wonder what I was missing.
Of course, none of this makes me
love the story any less and I do hope the second book will be put into audio
production. I would love to listen!
Narration: Daniel James Lewis
has a rich and beautiful voice and I’m sure he has had many friends tell him
that he should try voice acting.
Unfortunately, they didn’t remind
him that he should review commonly mispronounced words and I struggled with a few,
and downright laughed at others… such as when Marcus’ voice was described as
gravelly, but instead was said to be gravely.
Because I live with a man who
teaches voice acting and I listen to these lessons over and over, I am in a unique
position to identify and admonish. I
suggest a coach. (Not to turn this into
an advertisement, but I would recommend my boyfriend. He is quite good at teaching and wouldn’t
take long to improve your presentation.)
You have good natural talent, it just needs a bit of coaching to bring
out the professional you should be.
