Description from the publisher:
My name is Charlie, and I'm
invisible. Well, not literally, but
until one of the most popular guys at Eden High saved my life, nobody even knew
I existed. Sean Reese gave me more than
my life back that night. He gave me
friendship.
And maybe, just maybe, I can save
him, too.
Will he still be my friend when he
finds out my secret?

BECOMING CHARLIE is the first book
in the Becoming series. They will need
to be read in the order of release.
Can an author who writes very adult
(wink) paranormal novels also write sensitive teenage angst? The answer is YES and extremely well.
I was Charlie when I was a
teenager. There were 714 people in my high
school graduating class. I doubt you
could find ten who knew me by name. I
was invisible – probably because I was quietly introverted. Even as an adult, I still feel as though I am
invisible most of the time. Charlie’s
inner monologues when dealing with others could have come from the soundtrack
of my life. In other words: By the end of this book, I felt that there
was at least one other person on earth who knew how I felt and they wrote it
into a fictionalized story. I must say
thank you for that.
I don’t remember driving for the
last four days. Instead, I was wrapped
in the world of Sean and Charlie. There
must have been a million quotable passages.
The definition of a boy had me giggling
like mad.
“I am a
guy. I’m pretty sure Webster’s
definition of ‘guy’ says ‘Human adolescent male. Has a never-ending appetite. Does not ask for directions or use
instructions for any reason.’”
I
snickered. “You forgot ‘Thinks he knows
everything’ and ‘Prone to overreacting and has caveman tendencies.’”
“Yes,
those as well. Why do girls even like
us?”
I shrugged.
“Because
you’re tall and can reach things we can’t.”
“I guess
the short guys are out of luck then, huh?”
Today, as I was returning from
having the oil changed, I knew I was listening to the epilogue. I knew!
Still, I screamed out at the end.
I want more. I know the second
book will soon be released. I hope the
audiobook will follow soon after. I need to know what happens next. (Yes, that should be read in a little girl
whiny voice.)
Narration: Melissa Moran is
wonderful. As I said, I don’t remember driving
as I listened to her beautiful performance in bringing Charlie’s story to
life. This is what a good narrator does
for me. You relax my demons so that I am
not so nervous behind that wheel. Well
done!
Note: While I received this book as a gifted audiobook
copy, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
