favorites. ENCHANT is a retelling of
Beauty and the Beast.
Enchant is the perfect name for this
book. It completely captivated and
enchanted me from the beginning to end.
It’s not easy to retell a familiar story and have it seem new and yet
hold true to the memories of our childhood as well. Ms. Carlton has achieved this seemingly
impossible balancing act with an amazing story.
We are all familiar with the Disney version and she has even woven some
of our favorite elements of that telling of this classic story, most notably
Belle’s famous yellow silk dress and the library every reader covets. One difference that stood out was her
explanation of why the witch enchanted the prince and it was a fantastic little
twist to the story!
Warning: the wicked King, Thorne, is truly
wicked. Do not read if rape is a trigger
for you.
I devoured this book in a day. I wish I had the next. The first chapter of AWAKEN was at the end of
the file for ENCHANT and it looks absolutely amazing. I sincerely hope I am invited by Ms. Carlton
to read the next book in this series of stand-alone classics retold.
