This is the first book in the Onyx
Club series. I’ve been told that each
will stand on its own, but of course we’re all going to want to read them all,
so you may as well read them in order (always my opinion).At first I kind of hated Matthew (don’t call me Matt). I thought, “Here’s another domineering man claiming to be a dominant to get no-strings-sex.” Within pages, Cupid hits him with the whole arsenal and he doesn’t even flinch. Instead he shows himself to be a real Dom who accepts the charge placed in his hands by providence. With patience and love, he tears down Ella’s walls to build her back up even stronger than the tigress she shows herself to be at her first meeting with him. Her past has provided her with reasons to shy away from any and all around her, a frightened little kitten, but with the wisdom to use her claws when needed. Ella’s past is truly the stuff of nightmares, but Matthew is more than capable as her personal dragon-slayer. This knight doesn’t have shiny armor. Remember, shiny armor is for posers who have never been tested!
The majority of the story is written from Matthew’s point of view. Coming from a male author, it provides an intimate insight to the Dominant’s feelings and thoughts as he bonds with and builds his submissive. He provides her the wings she needs to make her submission significant. For me this was the stuff to make me sigh. I also cried with and for Ella a few times. She is so strong. Though broken in body and spirit when she meets Matthew, she is fearless of heart and determined to put the past behind her and protect her protector.
