This is the first book in the Soul Mate series.  They will need to be read in order, but there is no cliff-hanger, so it could be read as a stand-alone without getting into the series if you don’t like series.

After losing their sister and father in a car accident, Jas and Henry’s mother is put in the psych ward to deal with her depression.  They go to live with their uncle and now go to school in the next district over –their former school’s rivals.  On their first day of classes, Jas catches the attention of two hot guys… two hot guys who are both supernatural…two, hot, supernatural guys who are complete opposites.  One is descended from Gods and is her soul mate.  The other is a demon and will either own her or kill her.

This was a great young adult book.  There are a lot of characters in the series, so pay attention to who is who, what they are, and how they are related – it is worth it to know.  The story is great and not a carbon cut-out of everything else you’ve ever read.  There are some fantastical, unique creatures and a worthy love story to make all of us sigh and swoon.

For me, who spent most of my growing up years in Western Pennsylvania, reading characters that say yinz (you or ya’all) and gum band (rubber band) brought on a nice little bit of nostalgia.

As I said, there is no cliff-hanger and you don’t have to read the series to find out what finally happened, but I can’t wait to get back to visiting the friends I have found in Lupiterra, Pennsylvania.
