Jonathan Winchester has clashed with his alpha one too many times. After another argument he leaves the Manitoba pack, his only home since the werewolf attack that changed his life. He returns to his home state of Virginia to start a new life free of pack politics. Jon finds work and meets a young waitress, Raine, who appears to be a lone werewolf, too.

As their relationship progresses, Jon’s embroiled in more intrigue than he bargained for and a danger bigger than he can handle. He's running scared until his own alpha tendencies surface, making him unable to leave the pretty werewolf’s problems behind. The young man is desperate to save Raine—even if his efforts may lead him straight to death.

Journey along in this first prequel novel involving the favorite characters from the bestselling V V Inn series. Written at reader demand, this stand-alone story explains how the beloved Jonathan came to serve the deadly redheaded vampire, Dria.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For most readers to date, this has been a prequel, written well after they had already read several of the books in this series.  For me, I had not read any, so this is book one to my mind.  I was not lost.  Each character is well-introduced.  BTW:  the introduction to Dria and Rafe is hawt, hawt, hawt!!
A year ago, college student, Jonathan Winchester, was bitten by a wolf and forced to believe that the things that go bump in the night are real.  Romeo, alpha of the Manitoba pack, takes him in to train him, but it is soon evident that Jon is an alpha and will one day outgrow or challenge for the pack.  Jon decides to leave after a tremendous argument with Romeo that shows no sign of resolution.  He finds himself in Virginia, close to but unable to go home.  He’s surprised to chance upon another lone wolf, his waitress, Raine.  When he discovers her secret and the danger she is in, he is determined to save the woman he believes could be his mate.  His determination leads him to a pretty redheaded vampire, Dria, and her human husband, Rafe.  Will saving Raine mean death for Jon?
If you are new to the series, as I am, I recommend this as a first read.  Allow yourself to fall in love with Jon as I have!  You have to admire any man who will place himself in danger or debt to claim the woman he wants.
How exciting to be at the beginning of a new series loved by so many!  I’m looking forward to the next “prequel,” Just One Taste; see that review, soon!
