This is the first book in the Heart of the Wolf series. They do need to be read in order.

Amber has been on the run since before she was born. Her mother trains her in all she needs to know as a werewolf, including how to avoid detection, especially from those on the Council. When she discovers an old friend in mortal danger, she takes a risk of exposure to help him. Blake has been searching for her for years and is ready to claim his mate. Can he convince her to stay with the pack? To quit running? To trust? Can they stand together against the foes that threaten them and the pack?

The story line is well thought out. Though it started a little slowly, it soon picked up steam and had me barreling down the track. It needs more editing/proof-reading, and it did distract me from the story at times, but that doesn’t make the story any less compelling. I truly enjoyed this story of werewolves, the instantaneous love of fated mates, and the thrills of defending those you love. I’m curious what other abilities Amber may discover.

There is no cliff-hanger, so it can be read as a stand-alone book, but I intend to read the rest of the series and have placed all of the books on my schedule to be read during this coming month. Ms. Bast has garnered one more groupie following her series of werewolves, witches, and vampires.
