Description from the publisher:
The award-winning debut in the Highland Legends Series:
Isobel MacInnes wakes up in present-day California, lunches in medieval Scotland, and by ten days’ end, falls in love with a man and his country, only to lose them in a heart-wrenching twist of fate . . .

Found in the arms of her second soul mate . . .

Forced to balance the delicate strands of time between two millennia . . .

Shocked by revelations rewriting the very foundations of history . . . of everything.

Isobel, a rising-star archaeology student, is dropped into two ancient worlds without warning . . . or her permission. Her fiery spirit resists the dependency thrust upon her. Amid frustration at her lack of control, she helplessly falls in love. Twice.

She struggles to adjust to the unimaginable demands of two leaders of men—a laird in the thirteenth-century Highlands and a Pict chieftain in a more ancient Scotland. Isobel transforms from an academic, hell-bent on obtaining archaeological recognition, to a woman striving to care for those she loves, and ultimately . . . into a fearless warrior risking everything to protect them.

I wanted to share a couple of my favorite lines:
LOVE:  “This shipwrecked soul has found home.”

QUOTE:  “Sometimes our emotions rule us.  How we handle the consequences…defines us.”

HILARIOUS:  “I unfurled my cocky smartass flag to fly at full mast.  “Sylvester got that tongue, Tweety?”

This is the first book in the Highland Legends series.  They do need to be read in order.

This is a love triangle like no other that you may have read.  Isobel, Iain, and Velloc live in completely different circumstances and yet fate, magick, angels… somebody… has decided that Isobel is fated to be with both of these men as the perfect soul mate to each of them.  Isobel is from 21st century America, Iain is from 13th century Scotland, and Velloc is from 1st century Scotland as a leader of one of the Pict tribes.  So how do they meet and how does a small blonde travel in time to reset the history of mankind?

I received this book close to a year ago through NetGalley.  For one reason or another, reading it kept getting pushed back and pushed back.  I could kick myself!  This story had it all:  love, lust, history, philosophy, fun, and a few tears.  Ultimately it is a love story… one love story… one woman loving her men and her clans.  .  I think I may have left pieces of my heart in Scotland's past.

I cannot wait to start the second book and continue diving into the rest of this series.

Description from the publisher:
Jake Callahan has a problem, and the only people who can fix it are the guys with Pierce Securities. Except Jake needs a woman.
Miriam Bartoli will happily play the part of a sexy woman to get what the client needs, especially since playing mom to an office full of alpha males and recent surgery has wreaked havoc on her femininity.
Can she fight her attraction with the target long enough to get what the client needs? Or will this case of mistaken identity and clicking with the wrong man be the end of her?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is the third book in the Pierce Securities series.  Each does stand alone, though there are updates concerning each of the previous couples and I would definitely recommend reading all and in the order of release for maximum understanding and enjoyment.
When I was younger (in the 1970s), there were a lot of little memes around (though we didn’t call them memes in those days) that started with, “Happiness is…”  In my life, one of my “happiness is..” statements would be,  “ Happiness is a new ARC from a favorite author.”  Anne Conley is one of those authors and this is one of those ARCs.  I am so happy that I got to read Miriam’s story.
Miriam has been facing one of those fears that many of us confront every October.  Because of family history and having faced that dragon three times in two years, she has decided to take an unconventional path in hopes of avoiding the beast - a radical double mastectomy.  Though it was her decision, it has left her with feelings of diminished femininity and the fear of a lonely future.  Add in a past abusive relationship, a team of co-workers who are alpha to the point of occasionally being overbearing, and the confusion of unknowingly meeting twins – one intriguing and the other a slime bucket - and Miriam is facing one tough, confusing, and scary time in her life.
Only Anne Conley could bring the laughter to balance the fears, the gentle to .balance the alphas, and the drama to balance the temptation to be too sugar sweet in pursuing the romance in the story.
 My only complaint (the one I always have when reading from Anne Conley) is that we now have to wait for the next book.  Yes, you distinctly heard me whining there.
“What’s perfect?”
“This right here.  The stars.  Aren’t they beautiful?”  She glanced over to find Jake staring at her.
“You’re beautiful.”
His hand cupped her neck and he came in close.  “Can I?”
Miriam didn’t respond.  She licked her lips as if they weren’t listening to her brain, which was emphatically yelling at her to stop this.
Jake obviously wasn’t listening to her internal monologue as his lips captured hers in a tentative kiss.
Her brain reminded her he was an asshole at the bar, he’d given her coke yesterday, he was mixed up in Tres Lobos, and he stole from his parents.  It was screaming at her that this was a bad idea.
But at the touch of his lips on hers, the lizard part of her brain—the part which was just made to eat, sleep, and have sex—told her to go for it.  She whimpered into his lips in defeat, and his arms went around her waist, pulling her close as he deepened the kiss.  Jake’s lips were soft, his mouth warm, and the aftershave exquisite.  She didn’t want him to ever let her go.
“Oh my God,” she breathed at him between kisses.  His tongue delved into her mouth, but before she lost herself completely, she pulled back.  “We can’t do this.”
He kissed her again, muttering against her mouth, “Why not?”
“I can think of half a dozen reasons off the top of my head.”
That seemed to stop him, but he didn’t let go of her.  Jake just looked at her quizzically, as if he saw absolutely nothing wrong with the fact they were kissing.  He apparently didn’t realize he had a dual personality and was a complete shit half the time he existed.  He finally looked up, taking a deep breath.  When he refocused on her, his eyes hardened into something wild. Something feral.  Something passionate.  And a little scary.
“Blame it on the stars,” was all he said before his mouth captured hers again.  This kiss was different from the first.  Where the first one was tentative \ and exploratory, this kiss was devouring.  It was like he’d gotten a taste of nirvana and craved more.  It was heady, the way his tongue was mating with hers in a fiery kiss that was quickly undoing her cell by cell.  Her last coherent thought was that Simon was going to kill her.
THE LAST ONE by Tawdra Kandle
Description from the publisher:
Meghan Hawthorne is restless. The last year has been a roller coaster: her widowed mother just married a long-time family friend. Her younger brother unexpectedly became a father and a husband. Everyone's life is changing. . .except for hers. As she begins her final summer of college, Meghan's looking for excitement and maybe a little romance. Nothing serious; this girl just wants to have fun.
But the only man for Meghan turns out to be the last one she expects.
Sam Reynolds doesn't need excitement, and he doesn't want romance. Fun is out of the question. He's been the steady, responsible one since his parents were killed, and serious is his way of life.
When Sam rescues Meghan alongside a dark Georgia backroad, she falls hard for his deep brown eyes and slow drawl. But making him see her as more than just a party girl won't be easy. Sam's tempted by the fiery young artist, even as he realizes that giving into his feelings will mean radical change. . .maybe more than he can handle.
Nobody ever said love was simple.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This is the first book in the THE ONE trilogy.  It is best that they are read in the order of release.

 Sometimes first impressions are so wrong and sometimes they are so right.  Sam assumed that Meghan was a party girl – irresponsible and immature.  Through a drunken haze, Meghan sees him and responds, “It’s you.”  When she later meets him (when she’s sober), she assumes that the Good Samaritan is actually a walking, talking jerk.  Good thing they’ll never see each other again, right?  Sometimes fate is cruel and puts you on the path of that jerk or party girl again.  Sometimes what seems like cruel fate is actually destiny.  The big question becomes:  can they forget their first impressions?

Meghan likes to date – a lot - but she does not commit.  She’s never found anyone to make it seem like a possibility for her future.  Sam doesn’t have time for any more commitments than he already has in his life – his farm, his sister, and his niece are enough for him.  The sexual tension between them was intense.  Still, their attraction was irresistible.  I loved that they were willing to admit what they wanted.  Their agreement to a summer fling, with no strings attached seems like the perfect solution to the desire neither seems able to deny, but what do you do when you don’t want the summer to ever end?

I loved the banter between Sam and Meghan, Meghan and her roommate Laura, Sam and his sister Alison (Ali), etc.  Tawdra Kandle is an expert at providing realistic conversation that had me immersed in the world that she had created.  I had to stop myself several times from looking up the map to go join these new friends on their adventure!

 Knowing a bit of Ali’s story, I look forward to getting my hands on the next book in this series, THE FIRST ONE.
