This is the second full-length book in the V.V. Inn series.  They do need to be read in order.

After tracking and killing Ivan a few months previously, and the seeing the thrill it provided the guests to out think a master vampire, it has been decided that they would stage a new hunt.  Sanctioned by the Tribunal, the guests will be allowed to hunt and claim the power of a rogue.  What could possibly go wrong in pitting seven vampires and seven werewolves against one ancient vampire intent on surviving and winning her freedom?

I could not put down this story – you know the kind:  you read at the red light, while you eat, and extra minutes on the treadmill just so you don’t have to stop.  It was a lot of fun to read this story in not just two voices, but seven!  Vivian, Rafe, Jonathan, Drew, Asa, Paul, and Joanna each provide their own insights into their Arctic supernatural world and the events of the week of the hunt.  I honestly can’t decide which is my favorite character.  They are all wonderfully created – each is unique and complex.

I am already reading the next novel in the series, BIG GAME, and I will post that review tomorrow.

This is book four in a series, but it stands on its own very well. 

Ms. Ramer’s village of Miracle, Wisconsin will feel like home in no time.  With a nod towards Ms. Ramer’s dedication towards fighting cancer, she emphasizes that there is something each of us can do to make those in the fight feel important, special, and loved.

In my humble opinion, this is a sweet, feel-good story and I enjoyed it very much.  Though there are patches that are a bit difficult to read due to grammatical or editing errors, I look forward to reading more from Ms. Ramer.

I don’t know if it was the author’s inspiration for this book, but I keep humming the Miranda Lambert song – a personal favorite, actually.  I could just imagine Mary Lou saying every word of this to Red after her wedding day imploded.  Not only does Mary Lou manage the impossible – getting Red out of bed, showered, and in clean clothes for the first time in weeks, she manages to get Red to go out of the house to a lake party…. where all of her old dreams just may come to real life.  Now don’t ya’all wish you had a friend like Mary Lou – oh wait, you have ME!!

Of course, I have to admit the fact that there was a Mary Lou in this story was a big plus for me.  Lisas, Julies, and Cheryls all can find their names easily in books – not so much for the Mary Lous and Suzannes in the world  (me and my sister).

Wonderful names or not, I have to tell you that I freaking loved this story.  It was down-to-earth and still sexy.  Red (Scarlett) is sweet and naïve with a jerk of an ex.  This story is a reminder that when one door closes, another more beautiful one will open.  Sometimes you have to be thankful that your plans don’t work.

I need the next book in this series (I heard there will be four in total).  S.J. please don’t lose my name!
