Dragon Shifter Novella!

Zarek Dracodomus has one slight problem. If he doesn’t mate by the end of the year, he’ll never have sex again. When he sees a tall seductress, he knows she’s the one. This headstrong sex goddess manages to turn the tables on the immortal playboy and Zarek finds himself racing to beat time, not only to remain sexually active but to win Keren’s heart as well. Little does he know he’s been yanked out of his tedium by a woman sworn to kill him and all of his kind.

This is the first story in the Stop Dragon My Heart Around series.  It does stand alone, but I can’t wait for more. There is also a companion story, Romancing the Recluse by Michelle M. Pillow, about Zarek’s twin brother, Viktor.

Zarek is nearing his 600th birthday which is the deadline date to avoid a species curse.  If he does not find and claim his true mate by then, he will become sterile, possibly impotent.  After bedding beauties for nearly 600 years, he’s beginning to believe that the myth of “the one” was truly just a myth.  If he hasn’t found one in all of this time that he would want for all time, what are the chances of finding her now?  Keren comes from a long line of demon hunters… demons include all shifters in her family history.  When Zarek meets Keren at a bar, he is intrigued by the woman who does not match his usual “type,” and then confused when the aphrodisiacal hormone he secretes with his kisses does not work and is actually repulsive to her!  Can a dragon and a slayer be fated mates?

The characters are strong and well-developed.  The story is raw, base, erotic, and still romantic.

I love that Keren is not a push-over for Zarek’s usual charms, especially the risbrosius hormone.  A true mate should be able to call you on your BS, kind of like Lynsay Sands’ Argeneau series – her vampires can read minds and emotions, but not those of their one true mate.  When your fated one can’t manipulate you, the life and the love you share can be more real for both of you.  “She wants me for me.”  If may have confused Zarek at first to realize this, but the truth is that that is exactly what we all need.

I also need to point out that the setting was in Pittsburgh, PA – the closest city to where I grew up.  Starting there was sure to have me excited for a good story and Ms. Roth never disappoints.  I am looking forward to reading more and more from Mandy M. Roth (and her many nome de plumes).
